We have developed an original measurement device based on hydrodynamic bearing that is installed on the driving shaft of a rotating machine in test.

By measuring the differential pressures in the bearing rooms it is possible to obtain the desired strengths and moments.

This hydrodynamic bearing can be equipped with dynamic pressure transducers in order to measure the fluctuations of the strengths and moments.

For example, such a bearing has been developed for measuring up to 25000 N for the strengths and 2500 Nm for the moments. The bearing stiffness is higher than 10⁹ N/m.

With this device, you will obtain :

• the three components of the forces due to a rotating machine in tests (two radial and one axial components) and the two moments,
• the dynamic components of these forces and moments up to high frequencies because of the high stiffness of the bearing,
• a very stiff bearing that can replace a classical ball bearing,
• a bearing without friction,
• by using the same liquid as the tested one, you will avoid pollution hazards.
