High cavitation flow limiter

PURPOSE

Passive limiter in case of failure on a circuit or when all control-command systems have been lost.

WHAT WE PROPOSE

In the 80’s CERG has developed systems to ensure the passive control of the flow in a pipe (initially for PWR nuclear reactor). Different systems have been developed; some of them have been applied to serious accidents and breakdown of primary or backup circuits.

These systems are based on the cavitation and flow cutoff. For example, when the flow rate increases in the line after a pipe breaking, an advanced cavitation phenomenon appears, thus limiting the flow rate to the flow cut-off.

These systems are designed so that cavitation does not affect the mechanical strength of the materials to ensure a useful life for the bearing cross.

Different types of technologies :

  • Single warhead limiter system

  • Multi-hoses limiter system
